An Assessment of the “Divine Invitation” Teaching

By Tim Hegg

A review of the article entitled “‘One Law’ and the Messianic Gentile” which appeared in the Messiah Journal 101 (Aug 2009). In this article, the authors Boaz Michael and D. Thomas Lancaster present their case for the “Divine Invitation” teaching, that obedience to the Torah is only mandated for Jews and those who have “legal Jewish status” (proselytes). Gentiles, on the other hand, are invited to keep the Torah but are not mandated to do so. In this review of the article, Tim Hegg shows the weakness of this position, and offers well defined answers to the objections raised against the “One Torah” (often referred to as “One Law”) understanding of the Scriptures.
